Magnus Elander, born in 1946 in Sweden, is a freelance photo-pro and specialist writer on the natural world. Prior to his photo-journalistic career, he worked at universities and in chemical industry, including Stanford Research Institute, California, USA. Has a Ph.D. in organic chemistry and has participated in more than forty expeditions to the Far North. During these expeditions he has spent nearly three years in Greenland. Dedicated outdoorsman and birdwatcher with high latitudes as his favourite expanses.

His pictures have been published in National Geographic Magazine and numerous international and Swedish journals. Award winner in BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year. He has written and co-written eight books spanning from the Arctic, eco-tourism, and large carnivores, that have been published in many different languages.

Magnus is one of the co-founders of the Swedish National Carnivore Centre, “Rovdjurscentret De 5 Stora”, and is a member of the International League of Conservation Photographers (ILCP).
