Autumn in Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Park, Sep/Oct 2019
– Louise Rigolet, Årsta
My strong passion for photography led me to discover Wild Nature Photo Adventures. I decided to go for a true “once in a lifetime” trip and booked immediately when the journey to Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton National Parkappeared on their website. Without hesitation, I clicked “book” and started looking forward to it. This was in the winter of 2018—and after a little more than a year, it was finally time to go.
We were a perfectly sized group of seven participants who met photographer Henrik Karlsson in Bozeman, where the adventure began. We had incredible wildlife encounters, so there was certainly no disappointment. Among other things, we saw and photographed bison, black bears, elk, pronghorn, grizzly bears, wolves, bald eagles, and moose. During the first two days, we stopped almost every time we saw a bison. There were many stops before we finally decided to only stop when something truly special appeared. But of course, for us participants, everything was special—so we kept stopping.
Every day offered stunning landscapes to enjoy, with autumn-colored trees and fields, rivers, waterfalls, hot springs, and geysers. Magical! We experienced all four seasons during our 10-day journey—snowstorms, sunshine, and temperatures of up to 20°C, mixed with touches of both spring and autumn in between.
Every day was different, yet equally rewarding. A big part of that was thanks to Henrik Karlsson and the wealth of knowledge and experience he shared with us—about nature, wildlife, and photography.
The entire setup—from the group size to the accommodation and meals—was perfectly planned and well thought out. The best restaurant experiences were definitely in Gardiner. I especially remember the first day, when after a few hours of morning photography, we returned to Gardiner and enjoyed a wonderful breakfast—what a taste experience. And later, having lunch served from the back of the vehicle with an incredible view—that’s hard to beat.
We entered the park before sunrise and didn’t leave until after sunset. Absolutely wonderful.
The photo tour truly lived up to my expectations—and more. As soon as I was on the flight home, I wanted to book another trip with Wild Nature Photo Adventures.
